SISD Success

Dear Somerville ISD Families and Community,

As of Thursday, April 24, 2025, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released the delayed A–F Accountability Ratings for the 2022–2023 school year. These ratings were shared following a two-year court injunction and reflect data that is now more than two years old. Somerville Elementary improved from an “F” in 2021-2022 to a “C” in 2022-2023; Intermediate earned an “F” in 2021-2022 and remained an “F” in 2022-2023 and Somerville HS earned a “C” in 2022-2023 down from a “B” in 2021-2022. Overall, Somerville ISD earned a “D” compared to a “B” in 2021-2022. However, due to statewide reprieves during the COVID-affected years, the 2021-2022 rating did not include data from Somerville Elementary, as campuses rated “F” were excluded from district calculations.

Despite this, we in Somerville ISD have not waited for a report card to tell us where we stand.  We have not shied away from the challenges we face, and we’ve made no excuses. As I told our entire staff in November 2023: “No one is coming to save us—the solution is in this room, and it was my responsibility as their superintendent to ensure we provide them with an environment in which they can be successful.” That belief continues to drive our work, and we are already seeing real progress as a result of the changes we’ve made together. For more information on how we are doing this, please view our 2024-2029 strategic plan.

As your superintendent, I also want to take a moment to emphasize a deeper truth: while our school district has accepted the responsibility of improving outcomes for all students, we know that a strong school system cannot thrive alone. A community that actively supports its schools is the foundation of a thriving community. When schools and communities work together, we become a place where parents want to send their children to school, where families want to live and work, and where visitors want to spend time and invest in our local businesses. Schools and communities are mutually beneficial—we rise together.

Now more than ever, I encourage everyone to stay informed and engaged in the work happening across our school district. This is a time to unite, not divide, and to remember that we are all working toward the same goal: creating the best possible future for our children and the Somerville community. I truly believe that our best days are ahead of us as a community, and each of us has a role to play in making that vision a reality.

Thank you for playing an important role in what we are building together.

Sincerely,

Eric Holton, Superintendent
