Congrats to our 10 regional qualifiers, 3 girls and 7 boys. The girls lift for their chance at state this Saturday, March 6th, and the boys will lift for theirs next Thursday, March 11th. I am so excited that Somerville will have such a presence on the regional stage. Our debut year will showcase the strength of Yegua Nation!
Best,
Coach Ethan Watson

Our girls power lifting team did a fantastic job at the Somerville Last Chance Qualifier meet. In the face of adversity over the last week and not being able to get to the weight room to prepare, we set personal bests on nearly every attempt. Kyra Watson won her weight class with a 900 pound total thanks to a squat of 405 (it runs in the family). Jazmine Jackson, Marilyn Guinn, and Bree Surovik all got 2nd place finishes. Keyanah Crowel received 4th place after a failed attempt of a deadlift nearly twice her weight. I’m so thankful for the teams that came and competed and made this happen. Also, to Cal Neatherlin (the AD), Karla Sparks (superintendent), and our maintenance crew led by Jason Divin, thank you so much for making this happen for our girls! Special thanks to my wife, Laine, and Mrs. Joni Surovik for heading the meet and allowing it to go smoothly. We are headed to regionals!!!
Best,
Ethan Watson
