Here are the results of the boys game Tuesday night, 1-25-22:
The Yegua Boys Basketball Team competed in a district match against the Iola Bulldogs Tuesday night in Somerville. The Yeguas had to battle back after falling to an eleven-point deficit in the opening minutes of the first period. By the end of the first half the Yeguas and the Bulldogs were all tied up at 36. The second half would pick up right where the first half ended with both teams trying to get the upper hand. This was a great test for the Yeguas, and an even greater victory, 64-61! The Yeguas moved to 14-8 overall, and 2-2 in district play. The Yeguas will travel this Friday, January 28th to take on the Normangee Panthers at 6:30pm. Leading scorers: Woodberry-23, Carter-13, Bryant-10, and Shivers-8.

Boys Powerlifting Results 1-26-22: Congratulations to ALL!!!
Our boys competed at the Rice Consolidated Swamp Strength 3.0 Powerlifting Meet last night and had the best day in program history. Derek Lopez with a total of 630, Verkobe Woodberry with a total of 960, Caleb Hanks with a total of 1030, and Caden Espinosa with a total of 1345 all earned 1st place in their weight classes. Deven Green placed 2nd, Canyon Surovik placed 3rd, Andrew Vasquez placed 4th, and Payton Sprouse placed 7th in their weight classes. Cedric Hudgen also had a good meet after difficulties on his squat. All in all, our boys have been putting in serious work and it really showed with a 2nd place finish as a team by only 1 point to the hosts who had many more lifters competing than us. Next week we travel to Jewett-Leon for the boys and Rockdale for the girls.
Best,
Ethan Watson

Awesome job!!!
Somerville girls powerlifting had their first meet of the season last night at Rice Consolidated and competed very well. Bryanna Surovik won her weight class with a 700 pound total. Hailey Porter and Savannah Eschete placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in their weight class. Keyanah Crowl placed 2nd, and Annzleigh Galbreath finished 4th in each of their weight classes. It was a great way to start off and show us where we excelled and where we need to improve, which is exactly what the first meet is for.

Coach Ethan Watson
